What we are

Mobile Bay Cabinet Pros is an independent cabinetry service for Mobile, Alabama, Mobile County and the Eastern Shore and coast of Baldwin County. We cover fourteen services, from full custom kitchens through vanities, built-ins, closets, garage and outdoor cabinetry to refacing, painting and installation of cabinets you have already bought.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any cabinet shop, showroom or manufacturer that happens to share part of this name. Any residential job over ten thousand dollars in Alabama is carried out by a builder licensed with the Home Builders Licensure Board, which is a statutory requirement rather than a courtesy.

How we quote

Somebody comes to the house and measures the room. Not from a photograph, not from dimensions you supply over the phone, and not from a floor plan. Every wall gets measured at floor level, at counter height and near the ceiling, the diagonals get checked, and the position of every window casing, outlet, switch and pipe penetration gets recorded.

What comes back is a written scope you can hand to a second shop and get a genuinely comparable number from. That is a deliberate choice. A quote that says nothing except "custom cabinets, kitchen, painted, $22,000" cannot be compared with anything, and two of those from two firms tell you nothing at all.

Why this site keeps talking about moisture

Because the federal recommendation for this coastline is different from the rest of the country, and almost nobody selling cabinets here mentions it. The USDA Forest Products Laboratory recommends an in-service moisture content of 11 percent for interior woodwork, flooring, furniture and trim in the damp, warm coastal area, against 8 percent across most of the United States and 6 percent in the dry south-west. Cabinet stock is kiln dried to 6 to 8 percent, so every cabinet installed in Mobile is gaining moisture from the day it arrives.

NOAA's 1991 to 2020 climate normals for Mobile Regional Airport give the driver: 66.15 inches of annual precipitation and a mean dew point of 72.0 degrees on 15 July against 39.4 degrees on 15 January. That is a 32.6 degree seasonal swing in how much water the air is carrying, and wood responds to it.

The consequences are cheap at build time and impossible afterwards: plywood at every sink base and on exterior walls, lower movement species where a panel has to be wide, end grain sealed as carefully as faces, and reveals set with the season in mind. Why every figure here carries a source

Because most cabinet pricing on the internet is invented. We went looking for cabinet pricing specific to Mobile, to Mobile County and to Alabama before writing the cost guide, and there is none. HomeAdvisor, Thumbtack and Homewyse publish national figures. The RSMeans city cost index is paywalled. The federal wage tables for this metro block automated access.

So this site prints the national ranges, labels them as national, names the publisher and the date against every one, and says plainly that no local dataset exists. Where a figure cannot be verified, the claim gets dropped rather than softened. That applies to regulations too: Alabama's licensing rules are quoted from the statute currently in force, and Mobile County's permit exemption is quoted from the county's own page.
